MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND H.E. SAQR AL GHOBASH
In the framework of the first official visit to the United Arab Emirates, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, and the delegation composed of MPs Husni Ismaili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the Parliaments of the Middle East Countries, and its members Darko Kaevski and Bedri Fazli, a meeting was held today with the colleague and host, H.E. Saqr Al Ghobash, Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council. The meeting was also attended by members of the Parliamentary Committee on Friendship with Parliaments of European Countries.
Speaker Al Ghobash welcomed and expressed particular satisfaction with the opportunity to discuss important issues of bilateral relations directly. He informed about Expo Dubai 2020 and assessed it as a great event for the country, but also globally, because it restores life and hope to people that we are at the end of this pandemic. He stated he was extremely glad for the participation of the Republic of North Macedonia with its own Pavilion, because the country has the opportunity to present its economic potentials, culture, history. Al Ghobash expressed the assurance that mutual relations and ties will be strengthened in the future, at every level and between all state institutions of the two countries.
President Xhaferi expressed satisfaction with the first meeting, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and noted that he sincerely expects the excellent level of dialogue, cooperation, mutual respect and understanding to continue with the same dynamics in the future, resulting in beneficial cooperation in all areas of common interest, as we support the same commitment to peace and stability, both regionally and globally. UAE assistance in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the support for our participation in Expo 2020, is an indicator of friendly ties and sustainable and stable relations.
President Xhaferi briefed his host on the current challenges of the Republic of North Macedonia in foreign policy, the expectation for the start of negotiations with the EU, and the membership in NATO. He stressed that interethnic relations and religious tolerance are nurtured internally in the country. As a member of the Global Alliance against Terrorism, our country is committed to the fight against this evil, and interested in using the experience of the International Center for Countering Violent Extremism - Hedayah, founded by the UAE.
Speaker Al Ghobash sent a clear and unequivocal message that any interference in religious matters, which must exist separately from state policies, can only lead to intolerance and conflict. It is therefore necessary for all states to put religious tolerance, the coexistence of different cultural and linguistic characteristics high on the agenda, and to exclude the interpretation of religious expressions that leads to misunderstandings. It was during Pope Francis' historic visit to the UAE, that such interfaith dialogue was promoted, and an agreement was signed with the Grand Imam of UAE which opened new chapters that would bring only peace and prosperity to all people, regardless of religion.
Regarding the parliamentary cooperation, the two interlocutors shared ideas for fruitful, constructive and intensive parliamentary cooperation through the Parliamentary groups for cooperation and at the level of committees. The two speakers also discussed about peace and security in the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf, which is reflected around the world and is particularly important for Israel and Palestine, the "Abrahamic Agreement" as a key milestone in UAE-Israel relations, and the consequences of the Afghan crisis and dealing with refugees, as well as other current foreign policy challenges.
This meeting was followed by the signing of the Guest Book and a bilateral meeting between the two speakers.
