Meeting of the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Jadranka Kosor

At the meeting, which both sides assessed as continuation of the highly developed friendly relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Croatia, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski underlined that the two countries have a common strategic goal - EU Integration. “I am pleased that the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia reached an agreement about the opened issues, which enables Croatia to continue the accession negotiations with the EU. At the same time, I hope that, after receiving the recommendation for opening the accession negotiations from the European Commission, the Republic of Macedonia will soon start the negotiations. In the past twenty years, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the only certain thing is that there is no turning that back, and Euro-Integration is an inevitable process”, said the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski.

Remembering his recent visit тo the Republic of Croatia and the discussions with his host - the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Croatia, President Veljanoski especially emphasized the role of Parliaments in the Euro-Integration Processes, as well as in the bilateral relations, adding that the Macedonian minority in Croatia and the Croatian minority in Macedonia have а special position and special role in the bilateral relations.

“Having this in mind, I am convinced that the relations between our two countries will be further intensified, for the wellbeing of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia and of the Republic of Croatia, as well as for strengthening of the stability in the region,” said President Veljanoski.

Expressing her gratitude for the meeting, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Ms. Jadranka Kosor pointed out that she expects that the Republic of Macedonia will open the accession negotiation with Brussels soon, and that it will receive the place in NATO it deserves. She said that her visit to the Republic of Macedonia and the discussions she had with Prime Minister Mr. Gruevski on the one hand confirmed the highly developed relations, but at the same time they are an impetus for their further intensification, especially in the area of economic cooperation. She said that she believes that it is in the interest of both business communities, but also in the interest of the region in general. Prime Minister Kosor also expressed her satisfaction that the two parliaments have established excellent cooperation.
